Elfin Kitchens served up the perfect compact kitchen solution for the conversion of two floors above a large Victorian pub in Wimbledon. Nine mini kitchens have been fitted into the newly converted rented accommodation and, whilst small in size, the kitchens deliver a big wow factor for potential tenants.
Although traditional pubs are in decline, London-based pub group Whiskey Whiskey Tango Limited is seeing an opportunity for old pubs in need of some entrepreneurial magic. The company has recently taken on the lease of the former Horse & Groom in Wimbledon. Now refurbished and known as The Garden Shed, this contemporary pub serves food and provides a real home from home atmosphere for its customers. This is carried through into the conversion of the two floors above the pub into bedsits for letting – ideal for those in need of flexible and low cost accommodation.
Making best use of the space available and adding value to the property, these small but perfectly formed bedsits have been designed in accordance with the Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) licensing requirements. Having been completely reconfigured to create 11 bedsits, which include an en-suite kitchen, every inch had to be used effectively.
In the first larger bedsit, the new pub owners worked with their builder to create a bespoke kitchen, which proved costly and time consuming but, having discovered Elfin Kitchens, took the decision to install mini kitchens into nine of the remaining rooms.
The nature of the Victorian building meant that traditional features like chimneybreasts and sloping ceilings caused layout challenges for the team. But thanks to the space efficiency of the Elfin kitchens, they found it easy to slot these all-in-one facilities into what previously would have been dead space.
Each kitchen is 1,000mm long and features an A+ rated refrigerator, a 20 litre combi oven and grill with hotplates including a 30-minute safety timer, two drawers for storage, a sink, drainer and monbloc tap – everything you need for basic food storage, preparation and cooking.
Built entirely of white powder coated steel, Elfin’s kitchens boast stainless steel door and drawer furniture, slim foam filled doors and drawer fronts with a self closing action and, with the bedsits designed in a clean, simple Scandinavian style in mind, the all-in-one kitchens sit perfectly.
Already looking to install more Elfin Kitchens into the company’s next venture, Whiskey Whiskey Tango Ltd owner, Karl Tisch, said: “Choosing Elfin was the right decision for this project. The ease of service and delivery was great. The delivery guy explained how easy it is to order and fit replacement parts if required, which with this kind of accommodation is pretty inevitable.
“The product is sturdy and cost wise is really favourable. Also, the way the kitchens are sized means they are a great option for older buildings – you can use all those precious nooks and crannies effectively – it made layout planning so much easier, and with simply having to run the plumbing and electricity into each room - Elfin Kitchens are a no-brainer.”Back
