There are multiple benefits that come with a mini compact kitchen. Scott Tibbles, who owns a recently refurbished beach hut style holiday apartment overlooking the Kingsbridge estuary in south Devon, is no stranger to these. He has installed an Elfin Kitchen in his property, which provides all the cooking facilities his visitors need.
The prebuilt kitchen, manufactured from white powder coated and stainless steel, is just 1500mm wide. It has slotted perfectly into the back wall of the living quarters of Scott’s beach hut, where just plumbing for the tap and sink waste and three plug sockets were needed for a fast and easy installation.
Elfin Kitchens provides mini kitchens to suit most challenging spaces, where a fitted kitchen just wouldn’t make spatial or financial sense. Once ordered, the kitchen is usually available for delivery within three days. It arrives fully boxed for complete protection during transit. Once onsite, the end user can simply unpack the kitchen, manoeuvre into position, plug in and start to cook!
Scott Tibbles’ beach hut is actually a converted garage, which benefits from stunning views of the Kingsbridge Estuary. “It’s generally the case that no one keeps a car in their garage anymore,” he explains, “We decided to make the most of ours, so converted it into an appealing holiday cottage, where our own friends and family can come to stay when it’s not being rented by holiday-makers.”
Because of the limited space afforded, Scott needed a compact kitchen solution and found Elfin Kitchens. His beach hut kitchen features a stainless steel worktop complete with sink, monobloc tap and drainer. Two ceramic hotplates with a safety timer mean the odd seafood dinner can be cooked up on the hob. Meanwhile a 28litre combi-oven and grill provides three-in-one functionality for cooking.
Also packed into this space are a large pan drawer and a cupboard under the sink – perfect for dry food and utensil storage. An A+ rated fridge also provides storage for fresh foods. The cupboards are white powder coated, so the smart matt finish blends neatly with Scott’s nautical design theme.
Scott has enhanced his kitchen by drawing from the range of Additions from Elfin Kitchens. This enables the customer to create a completely bespoke kitchen – by adding features such as wall cupboards, extractor hood and a splashback, as Scott has done.
“The idea was to create a beach hut style apartment that people looking for a break can feel relaxed in. It comprises a living area, which the Elfin Kitchen really contributes to because it offers everything a holidaying couple could possibly need in food preparation and cooking facilities. From here the sliding doors open onto a private sundeck, where visitors can enjoy a freshly chilled sun-downer from the kitchen fridge.”
Scott has also been mindful of his investment though: “I costed up both a fitted kitchen and an Elfin Kitchen. The beauty of the Elfin Kitchen is that, if I ever choose to sell the property, I can take the kitchen with me so I retain the asset. I also feel that with Elfin, you get a good level of support – any spares are easy to order over the phone and arrive promptly. Because the team is small and friendly, you really get that personal service.”
Elfin Kitchens’ managing director, Bob Andrew said: “This is a great example of how versatile a mini compact kitchen can be. Scott is demonstrating to other beach hut and holiday cottage owners that they don’t need to splash out on the bespoke design and installation of a fitted kitchen – an Elfin Kitchen offers a great, cost effective and space-saving alternative.”Back
