With so many space efficient kitchen options available from Elfin Kitchens, they often get specified in the most unlikely places, none more so than for the redevelopment of a former, Great Yarmouth town centre toilet block into good quality, emergency housing, where a robust, compact and easy-to-maintain kitchen solution was required.
The public conveniences, also part of the old slipper baths, were originally purpose-built in the early part of the 20th century but closed during the 1990s. The single-storey, red brick building, with its distinctive decorative features, stood empty and disused for over ten years falling into a state of disrepair, until Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s Empty Homes Project identified it as a potential scheme for conversion into good quality emergency temporary accommodation units for homeless people and families.
With the nature of the occupancy being short term and high turnover together with the need for robust, compact facilities for the preparation and cooking of food, an easy-to-maintain and easy-to-clean kitchen solution was required. Elfin Kitchens supplied two of its compact kitchens for installation in what used to be the female convenience; now converted into two, one-bedroom units, each comprising of a bedroom, shower room and kitchen-living space.
The prebuilt 1500mm kitchens are manufactured from white powder coated steel and feature stainless steel door and drawer furniture with slim foam filled doors and drawer fronts. Installed within the kitchen are a fridge, combi oven and grill with hotplates, a large pan drawer, sink, drainer and tap together with a useful undersink cupboard.Back
