Elfin Kitchens recently had the opportunity to strut their stuff at Vivienne Westwood’s flagship store in London. The compact kitchen was chosen by arguably the UK’s most famous fashion designer for its £1m extension to the Conduit St premises.
Clearly Westwood’s eye for design matched that of construction and interiors experts Isle Construction who carried out the 6 month project. The three story extension provides a much needed studio facility and enhanced office space for the designer store. The Elfin kitchen complete with in-built dishwasher and fridge was the perfect model for the compact area and the pelmet with concealed lighting, which are new feature in Elfin kitchens, brought out a whole new dimension to the stainless steel finish.
The building project itself presented a number of challenges to the contractor who had to organise and facilitate the arrival of the entire steel framework, each of which measured over three metres in length, through the labyrinthine London streets and through the doors of the premises without using a crane.
Isle Construction & Interiors Ltd, Director, Malcolm Raybone commented on the challenges for the build. “Building in London always has its own peculiarities, Conduit Street by its very name meant that we are dealing with an area that has numerous streams and tributaries running close to the foundation work, and the challenge of bringing in the steelwork alone stopped many other companies from even contemplating the job. So when it came to installing a kitchen we wanted something that had style and simplicity as well as ease of installation.”
Though the kitchen was initially recommended by the architect on the project, David Corley Partnership, Isle was quick to see the potential of the kitchen. “The design fits in perfectly with the modern interiors we have provided.” Malcolm Raybone continued. “Installation was a breeze and completed in minutes rather than the hours or days it takes installing a traditional kitchen.”
The Elfin kitchen’s sleek design and good looks is sure to be a runway hit with everyone at the Vivienne Westwood store.
