Elfin were asked to specify and supply 18 kitchens, breakfast bars and locker banks to Warwick University. The newly refurbished Lakeside 2 Student Accommodation development is now bursting with new students, following our successful installation of our premium range kitchens.
Associated Architects LLP were tasked with finding a durable kitchen solution that didn’t compromise on style for communal student areas, staff room, tutor room and warden room. Importantly, the kitchens also needed to be accessible for staff and students living with a disability.
Elfin was selected as our metal kitchens were hard-wearing, but also modular and pre-built off-site, which reduces installation time and disruption to student studies.
Our range of Premium kitchens in Bronze and Slate Grey were chosen, each with brushed stainless-steel worktops and splash backs, plus a premium range of white wall units. Full size ovens, cooker hoods, induction hobs and individually designed breakfast bars created a contemporary and multi-functional environment.
Communal areas were supplied with two kitchens and two banks of ovens to create a more workable shared space, whilst on the ground floor, our bespoke designs included sinks, plus two electric, height adjustable worktops for accessibility. The tutor room was equally well-equipped – a bespoke kitchen included a full-size oven, cooker hood hob and space for a washing machine, all in matching colours.
Each environment had a different requirement – and the Elfin team worked in partnership with Associated Architects, Warwick University and the team at Troy Group to design and deliver all kitchens in under eight weeks.
I found Elfin easy to work with from design to completion. We chose Elfin for the programme benefits of a modular system and the robustness of the materials used. They were friendly and extremely helpful throughout. Thank you Elfin!”.

Available in sizes from 900mm to 1800mm, the Premium range of kitchens incorporates high-quality appliances, including a refrigerator, sink and tap, plus a choice of solo or combination microwave, oven and grill. In addition, Premium models are supplied with optional soft close drawers and/or a ceramic hotplate, complete with a safety cut-out timer.
Commenting on the project, Tom McCain at Elfin Kitchens added: “We are really pleased with the end result – the kitchens look fantastic. We are always happy to get involved from the start and it paid dividends as we were able to specify and design some bespoke elements to meet the needs of the university. It was a tight turnaround, but one that we delivered on.”
Elfin’s premium models are also available in a range of alternative colours, from gloss powder-coated White, Claret or Slate Grey, to matt powder-coated Bronze. These compact kitchens save space and offer great flexibility, as there are right or left-hand versions available.
